Every Step Counts

The purpose of the 2010 Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb is an awareness and fundraising campaign to assist Power To Be Adventure Therapy Society in its efforts to reduce waiting lists and help more disadvantaged kids, adults and their families living in The Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

For the past 10 years, Power To Be Adventure Therapy has enriched the health and quality of life for disadvantaged youth and their families in BC. We are leading the way in providing year-round access to outdoor education programs for marginalized young people in BC.

  • To date, we have served 3400 young participants with over 100 volunteers and six full-time staff
  • We run three programs:
    • Power To Be Wilderness School: a four-year alternative education program that assists at-risk youth in discovering their full potential
    • The Adaptive Recreation Program: a year-round program that provides people living with a disability access to activities such as kayaking, skiing, rock climbing, gardening and camping
    • The Oncology Expedition: a program held in collaboration with BC Children’s Hospital for youth with cancer
  • We were recognized with The For Kids Sake Award in 2008, named The 2008 Community Leader of the Year on Vancouver Island, and our Executive Director was short-listed for Canada’s 40 under 40.

At present, we have reached our capacity to support more kids in need. With increasing community demand for our programs, we need to substantially increase our donor base to reduce waiting lists and support our strategic plan to expand our community services in the Lower Mainland. A $150,000 fundraising goal will kick-start this critical expansion. This is your chance to help us make it happen! Please click here to make a donation.
